By 2030, 150 thousand new parking lots will be built in Tashkent

In Tashkent, the situation for drivers will become much easier in the next five years. According to the presidential decree, 150,000 parking spaces will be created throughout the capital by 2030. Considering the current situation of "eternal traffic jams," this news pleases many - but in reality, serious work still lies ahead.

- The document defines the main goals for raising the urban transport system to a new level:

- increasing the share of public transport use to 60%;

- increasing the average speed of buses from 18 km/h to 24 km/h;

- extension of the metro network to 103 km.

The metro will develop in stages:

-2027 - 76 km,

-2028 - 85 km,

-2029 - 90 km,

-2030 - 103 km.

A number of other major changes are also planned to facilitate the transportation environment in the city:

- 600 bus stops will be reconstructed;

- 40 km of pedestrian and bicycle paths will be created;

- 300 km of roads will be repaired;

- 200 "smart" traffic lights and intersections connected to a single control system will be installed;

- 4 more overpasses and tunnels will be built.

In a presentation on December 3, the president was criticized for the increasing load on the city: as a result of a sharp increase in the population, cars, and economic activity, the pressure on the main corridors has doubled. Traffic jams with 7-8 points have become a "new normal."

The problem is not just movement - the high share of private cars is also negatively affecting the environment. Therefore, the measures taken are aimed not only at facilitating traffic on the roads, but also at improving the air quality in the city.
