Why Volkswagen discontinued the manual transmission for the Jetta

Volkswagen is completely phasing out manual transmissions in the American market: starting with the 2027 model year, the Jetta GLI sedan will be sold in the US exclusively with a seven-speed DSG preselective robotic transmission. Company representatives officially confirmed this information. This is reported by Ixbt.com .

Thus, the Jetta GLI will be the last Volkswagen model in the US to lose its manual version. For many years, this sedan was highly valued by brand enthusiasts and car lovers precisely because of the ability to shift gears manually.

Volkswagen representatives noted that they tried to keep the manual transmission as long as possible, even though it was not popular. However, demand for such versions continues to decline worldwide, and producing a separate modification for a small audience has become economically inefficient.

Technically, the Jetta GLI remains unchanged. The car will continue to be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo engine producing 228 hp and 349 Nm of torque. At the same time, Volkswagen is also updating the standard Jetta versions. The Jetta S and Sport trims will feature a new audio system, the Composition Media multimedia complex, and a keyless entry system.

For the American market, this marks the end of an era: it will now be impossible to find new Volkswagen models with a manual transmission.
