Mirziyoyev lays foundation stone: a new era for the National Museum begins

To further showcase Uzbekistan’s history and culture, construction of another grand complex has begun in the country’s capital. On August 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid the foundation stone for the National Museum of Uzbekistan in Tashkent.

The ceremony was attended by cultural and artistic figures, scholars and writers, veterans, and representatives of the public. In his speech, the President emphasized that today the country is pursuing development not only economically but also spiritually. Just as major projects such as the Center of Islamic Civilization, the Imam Bukhari complex, and the Olympic City are being built, now the National Museum of Uzbekistan is also under construction.

– This museum will remain the property of our people and become a grand center of enlightenment, conveying our three-thousand-year history and cultural heritage to the world community and future generations, – said the head of state.

The project was designed by Japan’s “Tadao Ando Architect & Associates” and Germany’s “Atelier Brückner,” while construction will be carried out by China’s “CSCEC International Construction.” The museum’s exterior, combining circles, squares, and triangles, reflects the harmony of Eastern and Western cultures.

According to data, over 1 million artifacts are housed in Tashkent’s 30 museums, though many remain in storage. The new museum, spanning 40,000 square meters, will feature modern exhibition halls, a library, restoration laboratories, and storage facilities. It will allow for up to 10,000 exhibits to be displayed simultaneously.

Additionally, a 4,000-square-meter area will include conference halls, auditoriums, restaurants, and children’s playgrounds. Once completed, the museum will form a single architectural ensemble together with the Abulqosim madrasa, the Palace of Friendship of Peoples, and the National Park.

In the future, this complex will cooperate with world-renowned cultural centers such as the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum, and the British Museum, bringing unique exhibits to Uzbekistan and organizing exhibitions.

– I am confident that the new complex will highlight our country’s place in world history and development even more brightly. It will serve our people not just for a year, but for decades, – said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the close of the ceremony.

Following this, the head of state placed a symbolic capsule into the foundation and officially launched the construction.
