The film “The Conjuring: Last Rites” earned 83 million dollars on its very first weekend, writes Variety.
For Warner Bros. and New Line, this result became a new record for the franchise. It surpassed the 53.8 million dollar opening of the 2018 spin-off “The Nun.”
Among other achievements, this was the best start of the year for a horror movie and the third largest genre box office result in history after two other Warner Bros. films: 2017’s “It” with a 123 million dollar budget and 2019’s “It Chapter Two” with a 91 million dollar budget.
Internationally, “The Conjuring: The Final Chapter” grossed 104 million dollars across 66 countries, bringing the total revenue to 187 million dollars. This also marked another important record for the franchise.
Thus, the total revenue of the nine films in the Conjuring universe exceeded 2.3 billion dollars, making it the most profitable horror franchise in history. Considering that the film’s production cost was only 55 million dollars, the project achieved enormous financial success.
