Lazgi is a national dance that lives in the heart not only of Khorezm, but of all of Uzbekistan, bringing joy and spirit to a person. Its roots go back centuries: scholars emphasize that the history of Lazgi is connected with the ancient culture between the ancient Zarafshan and Amu Darya rivers.
According to legends, Lazgi originated from the joyful actions of farmers and herders who lived on the banks of the Amu Darya. When it rained or the harvest was abundant, they jumped with joy, expressing gratitude to nature with gestures of their hands and shoulders. These natural movements gradually transformed into a system of rhythms and steps, and Lazgi was formed.
The most distinguishing feature of the Lazgi dance is the freedom of the soul and free movements. The dancer spreads their arms like a bird in flight, expressing emotions with the movements of their shoulders and head. This is the movement not only of the body, but also of the soul.
The Khorezm Lazgi is distinguished by its fast tempo, vibrant steps, and lively music. It is also recognized on world stages: UNESCO included the Lazgi dance in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019.
Today, Lazgi is the pride of Khorezm, the pride of the Uzbek people. It is not just a dance - it is life itself, a vivid expression of joy, freedom, and national pride.
