A young American director jokingly sent 50 cents to his favorite director and received an internship

Darshan Patel, a young artist stepping into the film industry, gained the opportunity to internships with Oscar Boyson through an unusual method of self-promotion and paved the way to major film industry venues. This was reported by Business Insider.

Patel said she tried to contact the director through social media and email, but decided to take an unusual step after failing. According to him, the idea came unexpectedly: Patel found Boyson's account on the Venmo payment service and sent him 50 cents with the caption "To support this deal" and a link to his previously sent resume. "I immediately thought: 'What have I done?' It could have ended differently," Patel recalled.

A month later, he sent an official letter again mentioning the transaction. In response, Boyson offered her an interview, after which Patel was accepted for an internship. "When we started working together, we laughed and talked about Venmo's assignment," he said.

This experience helped Patel establish many professional contacts and strengthen her reputation. The young specialist already has serious achievements: his second short film - "Lu and Jane" - was shown at the Chelsea Film Festival. This summer he shot three more works and is now working on a full-length film.

Currently, Patel runs her own marketing agency, but dedicates her free time mainly to film. He hopes to fully transition to directing and producing, and in the future to establish an independent studio.
