"Wicked 2" grossed $30.8 million in its initial screenings

Filmed by John M. Chu, "Wicked: Part 2" earned $30.8 million in its initial screenings. According to Variety, this is the highest figure in 2025.
However, there is one subtle aspect: box office collections coincided not only with traditional sessions on Thursdays (which brought $18.2 million), but also with special fan demonstrations on Mondays and Wednesdays, which brought $12.6 million.
The previous record holder of the year was Superman, which earned $22.5 million on Thursday's first screens and $125 million on the first weekend.
The long-awaited continuation of "Wicked " is expected to raise between $150 million and $180 million by the end of the first weekend. The film could be the highest-grossing debut of the year. Currently, the record belongs to "Minecraft in Cinema," which earned $10.6 million in Thursday's initial screenings and later raised $162 million.
Last year, the first film "Wicked: The Tale of the Witch of the West" grossed $19.2 million in its first screening, and $112.5 million in the first weekend.
The events of "Wicked : Part 2" take place several years after the events of the first part: Elphaba is expelled from the country of Oz and hides in the forests, while Glinda joins the Wizard's side. Nevertheless, the wizards decide to unite again.
