Pierre-Auguste Renoir's previously unknown painting depicting Jean, the artist's son, and his nanny, was sold for €1.8 million at the Paris auction at Drouot. This was reported by The Guardian.
The oil painted canvas "The Boy and His Toys - Gabriel and the Artist's Son Jean" has never been exhibited or sold before. The painting belonged to Jean's godmother, Jeanne Bodot, who was also a friend and student of Renoir.
Art critic Pascal Perrin stated that Renoir's canvas has not been restored and is "in an emergency condition."
Born in 1894, Jean Renoir became a director and won the Oscars for Outstanding Achievement in 1975. Among his works is the painting "The Great Illusion," which tells the story of two French prisoners of war who tried to escape German captivity during the First World War.
