Officially Confirmed: Andijan is the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World in 2026!

A very important decision for Uzbekistan was adopted at the 42nd meeting of the Permanent Council of the International Organization of Turkic Culture – TURKSOY, held in Aktau, Kazakhstan: the city of Andijan was declared the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World for 2026. High-ranking Ministers and official representatives of culture from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey participated in this prestigious event.

Strong Ties and Strategic Decision

During the meeting, the activities of TURKSOY in 2025 were comprehensively analyzed, and the plan of events for 2026, as well as issues related to strengthening cultural ties, were discussed. The relevance of ensuring the implementation of the decision "On the Development and Strengthening of the TURKSOY Organization," adopted in Gabala by the Organization of Turkic States, was also emphasized. Uzbekistan's Minister of Culture, Ozodbek Nazarbekov, specifically noted that the implementation of this document will further elevate the status of the international organization.

A Huge Opportunity for Andijan

According to the decision of TURKSOY, various cultural events and festivals will be held for one year in the city granted this status. This will serve Andijan to widely promote national culture on an international scale and increase the flow of tourists. We recall that in 2020, the city of Khiva in Uzbekistan was also recognized with this prestigious status. The selection of Andijan as the Cultural Capital for 2026 was greeted with enthusiastic applause by the participants of the meeting, and relevant decisions were signed at the conclusion of the event.
