Girlfriend of actor found dead at home changes her testimony

Famous Turkish actor Serhat Qilich was found dead on September 5 in his home located in Istanbul's Kagithane district. His girlfriend of 8 years, Ozlem Esmergul, provided contradictory information regarding the actor's drug and alcohol consumption in her statements to the police and prosecutor's office. This was reported by Demirören Haber Ajansı and Habertürk.

According to reports, Esmergul initially stated to the police that Serhat Qilich had no addiction to drugs or alcohol. However, in her testimony to the prosecutor's office, she stated that the actor did consume drugs and alcohol.

"I know that he has been consuming drugs and alcohol since I've known him. As far as I know, he has also been using cocaine for the past six months. He had no enemies," Esmergul said.

Esmergul stated that she had known Qilich for eight years. She last spoke to the actor by phone two days before the incident, on September 3. During the conversation, Qilich mentioned that his health had deteriorated severely, which was why he could not go to the set and had been removed from the TV series.

The actor also stated that due to his health issues, he had argued with Esmergul and some of his colleagues on the set. Afterwards, he stopped answering phone calls. Esmergul noted that she did not suspect anything serious at first because she knew Qilich sometimes went 5-6 days without speaking to people he was offended by.

According to Esmergul, she decided to visit the actor on September 5. When she entered the apartment using a spare key, she saw pieces of a broken plate on the floor. The inside of the apartment was very cold, and the air conditioner was running.

When she touched Qilich, she noticed that the actor's body had stiffened. Realizing that he had passed away, she reported it to the police. Law enforcement and medical personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed the actor's death.

Esmergul also mentioned that Qilich had recently been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Istanbul for a cervical hernia. According to her, it was precisely due to this health issue that the actor could not go to the set and had been wearing a neck brace.

As part of the investigation, the crime scene investigation report was also made public. It noted that there is a security guard and security cameras at the entrance of the complex where Qilich lived, and entry and exit to the building are controlled.

Additionally, no signs of forced entry were found on the apartment's iron door. Pieces of a plate of the same color and pattern were found in the hallway and near the entrance to the living room.

Suspected substances were also found at the scene. A green plant-like substance, suspected to be drugs, and rolling paper used for cigarettes were found inside a metal box in the living room.

Furthermore, a green plant-like substance inside a package with a black clip was found inside a fabric suitcase in front of the bookcase. Three 200-Turkish lira banknotes were also found in the suitcase, which were noted to be rolled up in the shape of a tube and may have been used for consuming drugs.

The investigation into the death of Serhat Qilich is ongoing. The final conclusion regarding the exact cause of the actor's death has not yet been announced.
