Dua Lipa sues Samsung over photo usage

Famous British pop singer Dua Lipa has sued Samsung Electronics for unauthorized use of her photograph. This was reported by the Reuters news agency.

The singer is demanding at least $15 million in damages. The lawsuit states that a copyrighted photo of Dua Lipa was placed on the front of Samsung TV boxes, creating the impression that she endorsed the product and providing the company with commercial benefits.

The image used on the TV boxes is known as “Dua Lipa — Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024.” It is noted that all copyrights and ownership rights to this photo belong personally to Dua Lipa. The lawsuit was filed in a California federal court on May 8.

In addition to copyright and trademark infringement, Dua Lipa accuses Samsung Electronics of violating her publicity rights. The singer's lawyers have attached screenshots of social media posts and comments to the court documents.

It is reported that these comments were provided to confirm that the singer's photo on the TV box encouraged customers to purchase the product. In one of the screenshots, a fan wrote that they would buy the TV “just because Dua is on it.”

Dua Lipa learned about the infringement by Samsung in June 2025. Following this, the singer demanded that the company immediately stop using her image.

“However, the electronics giant rejected this demand several times,” the singer's lawyers stated.

Samsung Electronics' press office stated that they are currently unable to comment on the ongoing legal proceedings.
