Debt for Water Services in Uzbekistan Is Rapidly Increasing
In Uzbekistan, public debt for drinking and wastewater services continues to grow. According to “Uzsuvta’minot,” during the first half of 2025, the total consumer debt reached 794 billion soums. Of this amount, 577.5 billion belongs to households, and 216.6 billion to legal entities.

Despite this, the country is improving its access to centralized drinking water. As a result of works carried out this year, the population’s access to centralized drinking water has reached 81.5%.

As of July 1, 544 km of drinking water pipelines, 148 km of wastewater pipelines, 35 drinking water, and 7 wastewater facilities were built with state budget funds.

Thanks to public awareness campaigns and revised tariffs, the number of consumers equipped with water meters increased by 248.9 thousand. This raised the overall metering rate to 82%.

Additionally, 4,935 malfunctions in the system were eliminated — 10% (or 362 cases) fewer than during the same period last year.

The reliability and efficiency of water supply systems are steadily improving.
