According to the Surkhandarya regional administration, an ecological and medical tourism complex worth $15 million will be built at the salt mine in the Sherabad district. The project is planned to be implemented by the Iranian company Kapa Yurt Soon.
Meeting and presentation
On August 27, the regional governor met with the head of an Iranian company. During the conversation, a presentation of projects being implemented in the Khojaykan Salt Cave was held. Investors provided information on the feasibility study and expected results. Also, with the participation of specialists, issues of selecting a location, determining directions, and their phased implementation were discussed.
The administration's statement emphasized that proposals for the Khojaykan salt cave have been received from "a number of companies," but an "investment project" with the Kapa Yurt company has already been launched.
Project directions
The investment program will be implemented in three stages from 2025 to 2035. It includes:
- establishment of a line for the extraction, processing, and packaging of salt;
- construction of salt pools, baths and health centers;
- Construction of a 100-modular hotel for 500 beds;
- creation of an amphitheater, craft centers, and a salt museum;
- Planting about 200 thousand trees and building an artificial salt lake on an area of 1 hectare;
- connection of the territory to electricity, gas, internet, mobile communications and railway infrastructure.
Economic and social effect
As a result of the project, 250 new jobs will be created. It is expected that about 200 thousand local and foreign tourists will be attracted annually. At the same time, it is planned to establish exports of the salt industry and further expand the economic opportunities of the region.
Tourism growth
According to the khokimiyat, the flow of tourists to Surkhandarya has increased sharply in recent years. For example, if in 2018 21 thousand foreign tourists visited the country, now this figure exceeds 20 thousand in just one month. This indicates high demand and prospects for new tourism projects.
