Assassination attempt on Komil Allamjonov
Komil Allamjonov, who headed the Information Policy Department in the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan until September 30, 2024, was attacked on the night of October 26 near his home in Kibray: the car he was sitting in was shot several times. Allamjonov himself was not injured in the incident. A criminal case was opened on the same day.
The next day, on October 27, it was announced that the first suspect had been detained. The Prosecutor General's Office announced in a statement on November 25 that seven people had been arrested, but only one of them was identified: Javlon Yunusov, who was extradited from South Korea. The statement also said that another suspect had been arrested in Kazakhstan.
In November, a number of high-ranking officials in the State Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were dismissed. According to sources, the dismissals were related to the ongoing investigation into the Allamjonov assassination attempt.
In December, Uzbekistan placed Russian citizens Bislan Rasayev and Shamil Temirkhanov, who are believed to be from Chechnya, on international wanted lists through Interpol. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the wanted persons are accused of illegally entering and leaving Uzbekistan, failing to report a crime, and illegally possessing firearms.
Unconfirmed reports in the press suggest that Rasayev and Temirkhanov were ordered to kill Komil Allamjonov, the former deputy head of the Uzbek presidential administration, and Dmitry Li, the director of the Agency for Prospective Projects, and that the client promised them a reward of $1.5 million for the two murders.
In a statement on December 26, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov once again denied that there was a "Chechen trace" in the crime in Kibray, while threatening Komil Allamjonov and Dmitry Li, stressing that they would be held accountable for their "deeds." Legislative Chamber deputy Odiljon Tojiev called the threat an interference in Uzbekistan's internal affairs, while former deputy Rasul Kusherbayev called it terrorism. Tojiev also asked the Russian Prosecutor General's Office to provide a legal assessment of the Chechen leader's threat and demanded that Kadyrov apologize to the people of Uzbekistan.
