In Uzbekistan, civil servants are switching to cars sold by local companies as official cars, as part of the presidential order.
In particular, Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov has started using a Chevrolet Malibu instead of a Mercedes-Benz. This was confirmed to by the press secretary of the head of government, Bekzod Hidoyatov.
According to him, Aripov held a videoconference meeting on March 7 and instructed all officials to stop using foreign official cars. The prime minister reportedly rejected the officials' proposal to introduce this rule in a few weeks.
"We must unconditionally fulfill all the instructions given by our President; there is no room for discussion. Some suggest implementing this from March 20 or April 1. No, that won’t work. If our President has issued a directive, we must implement it immediately. This is the primary duty of the government," Aripov stated during the meeting, as cited by his press service.
According to Bekzod Hidoyatov, deputy prime ministers have also switched to using Malibu. Regional governors are now served by cars such as Tahoe and Traverse.
Senate Chairperson Tanzila Norboyeva and Legislative Chamber Speaker Nuriddin Ismoilov also drive Tahoes.
It is expected that the "foreign" cars previously used by officials will be put up for sale via the E-auction platform.
We recall that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in the selector on March 5 that it is necessary to sharply reduce the use of official transport in state agencies and switch to national cars and national furniture.
