Reports are circulating on social networks about a sharp increase in the price of methane at gas filling stations for cars in Uzbekistan. It is noted that the price for one cubic meter of methane has risen to 5,200 soums, which is causing serious protests among drivers.
The main reason for this price increase is the introduction of new tariffs for electricity and natural gas from May 1. In particular, the price of natural gas for gas filling stations has been increased from 1,800 soums to 2,500 soums per cubic meter (by 38.9%).

Earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered a one-month delay in the change in electricity and gas tariffs. According to him, the prices were increased not from April 1, as planned, but from May 1. It was stated that this decision was made to support the population and entrepreneurs.
It should be recalled that the government resolution of September 2023 established that the maximum price per cubic meter of methane would not exceed 3,250 soums for 6 months. In connection with the expiration of this period, the upper limit price of methane was set at 3,350 soums from April 1, 2024, and the grace period was extended for another two months. Starting from June 1, the upper limit of the price was set at 3,750 soums, and its validity period was set until July 31.
However, in practice, methane gas has been sold in the regions of the republic in the range of 3,950-4,250 soums until now. The new tariffs have caused prices to rise even higher.
At the same time, the price of propane has also increased significantly in recent days. In particular, on April 18, one ton of propane was sold at 5 million 244 thousand soums on the stock exchange, while on April 29 this figure increased by 6 million 14 thousand soums, or 14.7%.
These changes raise various questions and objections among citizens and entrepreneurs. According to some economists, a sharp increase in tariffs can seriously affect the daily life of the population and the prices of products and services. In this regard, the authorities are required to provide a clear explanation and create more favorable conditions. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
