Reports of an asteroid hitting a house in Khorezm have been denied: what is the real cause of the incident?

A video has been widely shared on social media claiming that an object fell from the sky onto a house in the Bogat district of the Khorezm region, possibly caused by an asteroid. The video clearly shows that a loud impact was heard before the incident, as a result of which the ceiling of the entrance hall of the house collapsed and was pierced.

However, the Khorezm region Emergency Situations Department officially denied these reports. According to the department, the incident occurred on May 12 at 3:39 a.m. in the Yuksalish neighborhood of the Bogat district. A report was received that an approximately 10 square meter roof section of the hallway of the house had collapsed, and special laboratory services of the Internal Affairs Department and the Emergency Situations Department immediately arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation.

As a result of the investigation, no space objects or explosives were found at the scene. At the same time, it was also found that there were two propane gas cylinders in the house. In addition, according to preliminary investigation, the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak and accumulation in the house from a propane gas cylinder.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a special examination has been appointed to determine the exact causes of the incident. The ministry representative noted that, depending on the type of explosion, gas may have leaked and accumulated in the room, and the ceiling may have been torn off as a result of the explosion.

It was reported that there were no injuries or casualties, as the owners of the house were sleeping outside at the time of the incident.

Thus, officials and experts emphasize that this incident is not related to an asteroid or other space object, but rather to the possibility of non-compliance with safety requirements related to a gas cylinder in the house.
