A resident of Bukhara region has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for murdering a woman from Uzbekistan in St. Petersburg, Russia, reports UPL.uz.
According to the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan, the body of 32-year-old M.R. was found in the basement of an apartment building in the Nevsky district. Her lover, 25-year-old M.A. from Chorboginav village, Vabkent district, was identified as the killer.
M.R., a divorced mother of two, had been in a relationship with M.A. since 2022. After he moved to Russia for work, she later joined him. They lived together for 20 days, then separated after an argument. Months later, she returned and demanded he divorce his wife — leading to another fight.
During the confrontation, M.A. physically assaulted and suffocated M.R., killing her. He then put the body in a suitcase and buried it in a basement. To hide the crime, he sent a WhatsApp message from her phone, claiming she’d be unreachable for 10 days.
He later fled to Uzbekistan. After 10 days, a local officer summoned him. Realizing he couldn’t lie, he confessed.
The investigation was carried out jointly with Russian authorities. It was also discovered that M.A. took out a 50 million soum loan in M.R.’s name.
The court found him guilty of intentional murder and sentenced him to 11 years in a general-regime prison. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
