A tragic incident in the Namangan region has caused public concern. According to the press service of the regional Department of Emergency Situations, two teenagers drowned in the northern part of the Fergana water canal near the village of Mirishkor. They swam in an area where swimming was not officially allowed, and this decision tragically ended their lives.
The first report of the incident came in on July 23, 2025, at 13:48. Immediately, rescue teams, divers, and fire-rescue service personnel from the city of Namangan, as well as Chust and Pop districts, were dispatched to the scene. Their main mission was to find the two children and, if possible, save their lives.
According to the emergency service, the boys were swimming in the canal near Mirishkor village when the water current swept them away. Search operations began right away, but only after two days was the body of one of the teenagers found. It was identified as a boy born in 2008.
The second teenager, born in 2009, has not yet been found. Search efforts using divers and special equipment are ongoing both on the water surface and underwater. There is no result yet, but the search continues.
It should be especially noted that there are no officially designated swimming areas in this canal. Swimming in such places is dangerous and legally prohibited. In such situations, human life is at great risk. Unfortunately, due to lack of awareness among teenagers, such tragedies continue to occur.
The emergency service once again reminds the public to strictly follow safety rules around bodies of water, and especially not to allow children to swim without adult supervision. According to rescuers, to prevent such cases, it is necessary to raise public awareness and strengthen preventive measures.
Authorized organizations are currently providing psychological assistance to the child’s family. At the same time, local authorities are studying this incident and preparing proposals to further improve safety measures at water facilities.
