A shocking theft that occurred in Tashkent made the public seriously reflect. It was reported that more than half a million dollars were stolen from an office building located in the Mirabad district, according to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The incident occurred on the night of June 22. Two individuals, taking advantage of the dark night, arrived in a Gentra vehicle and entered the office area. They broke into the safe inside the building and took 560 thousand US dollars stored there.
According to the investigation, the criminals took the safe with them and opened it in the basement of one of the houses. After taking the money, they threw the empty safe into the nearest canal. Although they aimed to hide the traces, one of the suspects was caught thanks to surveillance camera footage and witness testimonies.
The detained person admitted to his actions. He said that he gave part of the stolen money to his accomplice, bought a motorcycle with the rest, and during the trip appropriated another 10 thousand dollars. He also admitted that he was planning to leave the country, but law enforcement officers detained him at the house of his relatives in Andijan and brought him back to the capital.
Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 169 of the Criminal Code (Theft). The motorcycle was confiscated, and the material damage was fully compensated.
This case once again demonstrated the importance of vigilance and caution. Strict adherence to safety rules in storing money and valuables remains an essential task for every enterprise and organization.
Moreover, thanks to the swift actions of law enforcement officers, a large amount of money was returned to its owner. The investigation is still ongoing, and the identity of the second suspect is expected to be determined soon.
