One of the most difficult days for young parents occurred on August 16 in Tashkent. According to social media reports, 4-year-old Z.A. was poisoned and died after consuming watermelon at home. The child’s father stated that doctors did not provide proper attention, which drew widespread public attention. The Tashkent City Health Department officially commented on this incident.
It is reported that on August 15 at 08:30, child Z.A., born in 2021, was brought by parents to the 4th City Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital. The child had vomiting, diarrhea, elevated body temperature, anxiety, and abdominal pain. At the same time, two other children in the family showed similar symptoms after consuming watermelon. All three children were hospitalized, and an epidemiological history was collected.
Z.A.’s condition was very serious: vomiting and liquid stool persisted, and body temperature reached 38 degrees. The child was diagnosed with “acute intestinal infection, type gastroenterocolitis. Complication: toxicosis-exicosis grade 1–2.” At this time, hospital staff, considering the child’s dehydration, began intravenous fluid therapy and antibiotics.
During the day, the child’s temperature dropped to 37.7 degrees, diarrhea and vomiting decreased, but nausea and muscle pains remained. Throughout the day, the child was examined several times by duty doctors. Doctors took additional measures to prevent dehydration and left the child under the supervision of the treatment department specialists.
At 01:50 at night, the child’s condition worsened, and he was transferred to the intensive care unit by the duty nurse. There, for 40 minutes, hospital staff conducted emergency resuscitation procedures: cleared the upper respiratory tract, provided breathing using an ambu bag, performed cardiac massage, and administered necessary medications.
Unfortunately, despite all efforts, at 02:30 the child was declared biologically dead. Diagnosis: “acute intestinal infection, gastroenterocolitis type. Aspiration syndrome.” Currently, law enforcement authorities are investigating Z.A.’s death. After the final conclusion of the Republican Forensic Medical Examination, all information about the incident will be officially announced.
This incident became a serious lesson for parents and society, emphasizing the importance of food safety and medical attention. Other families realized the necessity of taking all measures not only for food quality but also for children’s health to protect them from similar cases.
