The deputy khokim of the Markhamat district of the Andijan region was detained during an operational event. The State Security Service, which reported this, did not disclose his name.
According to the report, the deputy governor converted a 400-meter-long ditch along the highway passing through the district into a closed system and demanded $15,000 from a citizen in exchange for allocating land for the construction of 8 shops on the resulting 60 sotix of land and processing the relevant documents through his high-ranking acquaintances. He received $200 of the agreed amount in advance.
During an operation conducted jointly by the State Security Service and the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office, the deputy khokim was caught red-handed while receiving the remaining $14,800.
In connection with the situation, a criminal case was initiated under clauses "a," "c" of part 3 of Article 168 (fraud) and clause "b" of part 2 of Article 28,211 (bribery) of the Criminal Code, and a preventive measure in the form of detention was applied to the deputy khokim. An investigation is currently underway.
