Officials arrested in Andijan over land sale

Andijonda yer savdosi ortida amaldorlar qoʻlga tushdi

An illegal land deal has been uncovered in the Andijan region. As a result of operational measures conducted by law enforcement agencies, a neighborhood committee chairman and a governor's assistant were caught red-handed. The State Security Service officially reported this.

According to the information, the chairman of a neighborhood committee in the Andijan district and a governor's assistant working in the same area conspired to devise an unlawful scheme. They intended to combine a 2-sotix plot of land allocated for livestock farming with an additional 28 sotix of land held in the state reserve, and register it in the name of a 37-year-old resident of Andijan city.

Furthermore, they promised to reclassify a portion of this land for non-residential use and the remainder for residential use. By offering to "simplify" the documentation process for the buyer, they demanded a large sum of money. Specifically, they requested 57,000 US dollars for the land and an additional 3,000 US dollars to process the documents through their acquaintances in the cadastre offices.

During the operation, the officials were apprehended while receiving a portion of the agreed-upon sum — 28,000 US dollars — along with the 3,000 US dollars for the cadastre documents. This incident confirmed their illegal activities.

Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against these individuals, and investigations are ongoing. The incident is causing significant public discussion.

Such cases once again demonstrate that strict adherence to transparency and legality in land matters is essential. Any illegal deal will sooner or later be exposed, posing a serious threat not only to one's position but also to one's freedom.

In conclusion, deviating from the law may bring short-term benefits, but the consequences are always severe.
