In the Samarkand region, an unpleasant situation related to the lack of environmental protection was also noted. In the Pastdargom district, two citizens were found to have illegally hunted Zarafshan pheasants. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.
According to the information, citizens S.T. and Z.N., residents of the "Turkman" mahalla of the Pastdargom district, went to the territory of the "Yuksalish" mahalla of the Nurabad district and hunted 7 wild Zarafshan pheasants protected by law.
During the investigation, their actions were recognized as a crime against actively protected species. Because the Zarafshan pheasant is included in the Red Book of Uzbekistan, that is, it is protected as a rare species. Experts note that although the number of this species has increased somewhat in recent years, measures for its protection are still important.
According to calculations, the economic damage caused to the animal world as a result of illegal hunting amounted to 288 million 400 thousand soums. Currently, the collected materials on the incident have been sent to the Samarkand Regional Prosecutor's Office, and work has begun on providing a legal assessment and taking appropriate punitive measures.
Ecologists emphasize that every living being in nature has its place in the ecosystem. The disappearance or decline in the number of a species can affect the entire biological balance. For this reason, such offenses are assessed not only as financial, but also as environmental damage.
