Man who stole car 'for love' sentenced to 12 years

In Tashkent region, a man who committed a serious crime for love received a severe punishment. In the city of Chirchiq, a 33-year-old man with multiple prior convictions was sentenced to 12 years in prison for stealing a car, according to the Supreme Court.

It was established that at the time of the crime, the man was serving his sentence in a penal colony. While temporarily working outside the facility, he met a female prisoner, and they developed a relationship. The couple decided to escape.

After escaping, they could not find a place to live and faced financial hardship. The man then chose to commit another crime: in Chirchiq, he noticed a broken-down car parked on the roadside and, pretending to “help” the owner, stole it. He took valuable items from the vehicle and abandoned it near a school.

During the trial, it was revealed that the accused had already been convicted six times and had once again committed a particularly dangerous crime. Taking this into account, the court sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment.

Experts emphasize that this incident should serve as a lesson to everyone — committing a crime for the sake of love or emotion can cost a person both freedom and life.
