Strict measures are being taken against poaching in Syrdarya

A coordinated enforcement operation led by the Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, in collaboration with the State Environmental Control Inspectorate, the Syrdarya Regional Ecology Department, the State Security Service, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, has resulted in the apprehension of two individuals engaged in illegal fishing. The suspects, identified as Sh. J. and S. Kh., were caught red-handed in the Farovon neighborhood of the Saykhunabad district while using illegal electric fishing gear in the Shurazak canal. Authorities confiscated 46 fish along with the prohibited equipment used in the act.
The environmental impact of this illegal activity has been assessed at a staggering 519 million 120 thousand soums. Given the severity of the ecological damage caused to the local aquatic ecosystem, all gathered evidence and documentation have been forwarded to the regional prosecutor's office for further legal proceedings. This operation underscores the government's commitment to protecting natural water resources and ensuring that those who violate environmental regulations face the full weight of the law.
In light of this incident, the Committee for Ecology has issued a stern reminder to the public regarding seasonal fishing bans designed to protect fish populations during their spawning periods. Fishing is strictly prohibited in the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers from March 11 to May 31. Furthermore, a ban is in effect for natural water bodies in Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm region from April 26 to June 10. For all other natural water bodies across the country, fishing activities are suspended from April 16 to May 31.
These seasonal restrictions are vital for maintaining the biodiversity and long-term health of Uzbekistan's aquatic ecosystems. By preventing illegal poaching and allowing fish populations to reproduce undisturbed, authorities aim to preserve these natural resources for future generations. The committee continues to urge citizens to report any suspicious activities near water bodies to help maintain environmental stability and prevent further ecological harm.
