“Tottenham” decided not to sign 28-year-old German striker Timo Werner on a long-term contract. The team management had the opportunity to buy the experienced player, but did not use this option. Now Werner will return to “RB Leipzig” after the end of the season.
Why did “Tottenham” give up on Werner?
Werner joined “Tottenham” in the winter of 2024 on a half-season loan. Later, it was said that this period could be extended for another year, but the striker’s play did not earn the club much confidence.
The German forward has scored just one goal in 27 appearances for Tottenham, a poor result for a striker. Most importantly, Timo Werner has failed to show himself in serious games. In particular, in the match against Manchester City, he came on in the last minutes and failed to break through the defense led by Abdukadir Khusanov.
The team's head coach Ange Postecoglou, dissatisfied with Werner's performance, did not stop criticizing him and stopped showing confidence in the player. As a result, Tottenham gave up the opportunity to buy Werner for 8.5 million pounds.
Where will Werner go?
RB Leipzig, however, does not intend to keep Werner in the team. The club is planning to sell him completely, given the player's declining performance.
According to recent reports, Werner's next destination may be the United States. The German striker has an offer from the New York Red Bulls and is likely to join them in the summer.
Whether Timo Werner will get another chance to prove himself in European football or will continue his career in the United States remains an open question. But for Tottenham, he has gone down in history as a player who failed to live up to his trust. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
