Uzbekistan national team "given" a ticket to the World Cup

Igor Cherevchenko, head coach of the Tajik club "Istiklol", expressed his opinion on the possibility of the Uzbekistan national team reaching the final stage of the 2026 World Cup.

The Uzbekistan national team is in second place in the tournament table of the Asian qualifying stage of the 2026 World Cup with 17 points, four points ahead of the UAE national team.

"There are many players in Uzbekistan who play for good clubs. Just take Khusanov - he was bought by Manchester City for 50 million euros. But the whole team is very good, making a strong impression.

The group is not easy - there are strong teams from Asia, such as Iran, Qatar, the UAE. Nevertheless, the Uzbekistan national team can solve the problem in the next round and qualify for the World Cup. They will get at least one point in two games.

Uzbekistan can become the only republic from the post-Soviet space to participate in the World Cup. It will be interesting to watch them," Cherevchenko is quoted as saying by "Championship".

To secure a place in the 2026 World Cup, the Uzbekistan national team needs at least one victory in the last two qualifying matches against the UAE and Qatar. These matches will be held on June 5 and 10.
