Incoming Real Madrid head coach, current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, has reportedly already begun planning to strengthen his future squad. According to renowned Spanish journalist Joaquín Maroto, Alonso has recommended the transfer of Real Sociedad’s central midfielder Martín Zubimendi to the Madrid club.
Reports indicate that the 26-year-old player has already responded positively to Real Madrid’s interest and is willing to leave San Sebastián during the summer transfer window. Zubimendi has personally approved the potential move.
However, Real Madrid is not the only club interested. English side Arsenal has long admired Zubimendi, but the player has chosen to remain in La Liga and prioritized the offer from Madrid.
Sources claim that Zubimendi’s contract includes a release clause of €60 million, meaning he cannot be signed for less. Real Madrid will have to pay the full amount to secure the deal.
This season, Zubimendi has made 32 La Liga appearances, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists. His contract with Real Sociedad runs until the summer of 2027, further complicating any negotiation over the fee.
Xabi Alonso reportedly sees Zubimendi as a crucial connector between defense and attack, perfectly suited to his tactical plans. The midfielder is expected to become a key player in the new-look Real Madrid.
Fans now await how quickly and smoothly the transfer will happen and how Zubimendi will perform in his potential new team. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
