US President Donald Trump made a significant statement during his visit to Saudi Arabia, announcing that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will participate in the talks between Russia and Ukraine, which are expected to take place in Turkey.

"There will be important talks in Turkey later this week, probably on Thursday. I think we can achieve good results there. Marco Rubio will participate in these talks on behalf of the United States," Trump said at an event in Riyadh. This was reported by the AFP agency.

Earlier, a number of media outlets, citing their sources, reported that two representatives of Donald Trump - Keith Kellogg and Steve Witkoff - would also participate in these talks. Trump himself did not completely rule out the possibility of a personal visit to Turkey.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier proposed holding talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15. However, it is not yet clear whether these talks will actually take place and in what format.

In turn, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his readiness to personally meet with Vladimir Putin. However, Zelensky stressed that he has no intention of holding talks with other Russian officials.

Although the Russian side has confirmed that it will send its delegation to Istanbul, it has not yet provided any official information about Putin's personal participation.

According to analysts, the participation of the United States in these negotiations may be of great importance in resolving the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
