One of the most interesting matches of the 2nd round of the Club World Cup — the clash between Chelsea and Flamengo — ended with an unexpected result. The English giant, known as the “aristocrats,” could not do anything against their Brazilian rivals and lost 1–3.
The match started promisingly for Chelsea. In the 15th minute, Pedro Neto converted a successful raid into a goal, putting the English side ahead 1–0. The first half ended with exactly that score. Spectators may have expected another big Chelsea win, but everything changed completely in the second half.
Under Enzo Maresca, the Londoners made serious mistakes in defense during the second half. In the 62nd minute, Henrique found the back of the net and equalized — 1–1. Then, just 3 minutes later, Danilo scored a fine goal to put his team ahead for the first time — 1–2. In the 83rd minute, after a shot by Yan, Chelsea lost its last hopes — 1–3.
After this victory, Flamengo collected 6 points and took first place in Group D. They defeated all their rivals and became one of the main favorites. Chelsea, with 3 points after two rounds, remained in second place. In the next round, they will have to solve the issue of progressing to the next stage.
