A key member of the Uzbekistan national team and an experienced striker, Bobur Abduholiqov is expected to make a significant career move. Recently, he concluded the season with Azerbaijan’s “Sumgayit” and officially left the club. According to the club’s press office, Abduholiqov and another Uzbek legionnaire, Jasur Jaloliddinov, have seen their contracts expire.
Previously, Abduholiqov’s performance for “Sumgayit” (4 goals and 3 assists in 13 matches) satisfied the club’s management, and a new deal was expected. However, the contract was not renewed, and the striker now must look for a new team.
Prominent sports journalist Alexander Troitsky suggested that Bobur’s next stop might be Kazakhstan. Abduholiqov played effectively for “Ordabasy” in previous seasons, scoring 8 goals in 36 matches and gaining European competition experience.
Abduholiqov has also proven himself abroad. In the Belarusian Premier League with Energetik-BGU, he became the league’s top scorer with 26 goals and 6 assists, breaking several records.
The upcoming season is extremely important for the veteran striker, as he is viewed as a key candidate for the Uzbekistan national team’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. To earn a spot for the tournament, Abduholiqov needs consistent playing time and to showcase his scoring abilities again.
It’s worth noting that Abduholiqov has appeared in 18 international matches for Uzbekistan, scoring one goal.
