The Uzbekistan women's national team began their journey to the Asian Cup with a glorious victory, completely defeating Sri Lanka. The match ended with a score of 10:0, and our team impressed fans not only with the result but also with the quality of play.
After the match, head coach Katrina Kulbyte spoke with journalists and shared her thoughts. According to her, the victory was no accident but the result of the team's thorough preparation.
“I sincerely congratulate the girls. This success is a result of their dedication, discipline, and mutual understanding. We prepared seriously for this game, so we expected a big score. However, despite the result, there were still mistakes on the field that we need to work on,” said the coach.
Kulbyte noted that in every game, the team pays attention not just to the score but also to the quality of play. With high internal standards, every match is seen as an opportunity to learn, test, and improve.
“During the halftime, I talked to the players. Even though the score was 5:0, we agreed that we needed to play better — increase the pace, improve passing accuracy, and be more synchronized. This is not just a game against Sri Lanka — this is a step towards a big tournament. We must stand out with our game quality in every match,” she added.
The coach also commented on the referee's decisions. While she disagreed with some calls, she said the overall match went well. “Such situations happen in football. We still tried to show our style of play,” she said.
The match took place after sunset, which made a difference in the hot summer conditions. “Yes, the weather is a bit challenging. But our players are ready for it. Playing after sunset is relatively more comfortable. Of course, it's not +20°C, but even +35°C didn't stop us,” she said with a smile.
As a reminder, our national team will play their next match against Laos on July 2. Kulbyte and her team are already focusing on preparations. The main goal is to perform well at the Asian Cup and to showcase the high potential of Uzbek football in every match. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
