French international Ibrahima Konaté, who plays a key role in Liverpool's defense, has refused to extend his contract three times.
According to reports, the 26-year-old central defender will receive free agent status upon the expiration of his current contract. Its current agreement expires on June 30, 2026. This means that if a new contract is not signed, Konaté could leave Liverpool for Real Madrid on a free transfer.
It is said that the player himself has received a guarantee from the "Royal Club" that a contract will be offered at the end of the season. Therefore, he is not agreeing to new offers from the Merseyside club. Liverpool's management, however, believes Konaté's departure is almost certain.
At the same time, Real Madrid are considering another option to strengthen their defensive line. In particular, the candidacy of William Saliba, who has a contract with Arsenal until June 2027, is also being considered. If he becomes a free agent then, like former Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, he could join Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Thus, Konaté's fate became almost clear to the team representatives. Now the only question remained when and how the Madrid side would recruit him.
