In the next round of the English Premier League, Liverpool suffered an unexpected defeat. The team led by Arne Slot took the field away against Crystal Palace and lost 1:2. After the match, the Dutch coach shared his thoughts about the game at a press conference.
"The first half was very difficult. The opposing team played at a high level and their play truly deserved a goal. Thankfully, even in a tight situation, the score remained 0:1 at halftime. The second half was completely different. We had the opportunity to score on time and we did so near the end of the game. However, the second goal scored from a set piece brought victory to the opponent," said Slot.
The coach emphasized that to be competitive in the Premier League, the team must learn to be more effective on set pieces. "Last season, these aspects were strong for us. But now, we conceded two goals against Newcastle, and again lost twice in the same way. Set pieces are becoming increasingly decisive in the championship," he stressed.
Arne Slot also specifically commented on Crystal Palace’s style of play: "They operated in a formation suited to them. They defended well in a low block, used fast players effectively, and had a strong striker like Mateta. The first half was very difficult for us. Later on, we controlled the ball more, but breaking through the low block was not easy."
"Conceding a goal in added time is very painful. But we learn from every match and will gain even more lessons from such games," added the Liverpool head coach.
Thus, Arne Slot acknowledged that his pupils must show stronger results in future matches through team strength and correct conclusions.
