Current UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Perreyra revealed the factors behind his first defeat against Magomed Ankalayev on March 9th. The Brazilian said that at that time he did not feel ideal - continuous flights, minor injuries, and a rise in temperature several weeks before the fight complicated the recovery process.
"At that time, my body was tired. I got hot, it was difficult to get back in shape. Nevertheless, I didn't want to cancel the fight - I thought I had to go out," he said in an interview with AtFight.
Perreyra emphasized that most importantly, he returned to the octagon healthy and fully demonstrated his potential at UFC 320. The result didn't take long: in the rematch, the Brazilian knocked out Ankalayev in the first round.
This confession is also an important signal for fans: Perreyra didn't seek excuses, but learned lessons, returned to professional training, and put all his resources to use when needed. The reliable advantage in the rematch was the result of his mental stability and strategic approach.
