Nepomnyashiy: Kapadze was better suited for the national team than Cannavaro

The appointment of a new head coach for the Uzbekistan national team has sparked widespread discussion in the football community. Former national team head coach Valeriy Nepomnyashiy also commented on the decision.

According to the Russian specialist, Fabio Cannavaro's arrival was an unexpected decision. He emphasized that former head coach Timur Kapadze knew the team well, had experience working with players, and was more suited for the national team.

"Firstly, I know Timur Kapadze well. When I worked in Uzbekistan, he was my student. A very good guy and a capable specialist. In the last 3-4 games, he led the team with dignity. However, compared to Cannavaro, I think Kapadze was more suitable for the national team," Nepomniachtchi said in an interview with journalists.

According to him, Kapadze was well aware of the atmosphere within the team, the characteristics of the players, and the internal discussions. Therefore, his departure was a strange and unexpected situation for Nepomnyashiy.

"This decision was incomprehensible to me. It is unclear why such a change was made. The players knew Kapadze well, and he was able to unite the team spiritually. I heard that he will remain on the national team's coaching staff, but I think this is also not the right decision," the specialist added.

As a reminder, Fabio Cannavaro, the 2006 World Cup winner, was recently appointed head coach of the Uzbekistan national team.

Valeriy Nepomnyashiy headed the Uzbekistan national team in 2006 and participated in a number of important competitions with the national team at that time.

The coach believes that any change in the national team can affect the players' mood and result. Therefore, he considers it important to maintain consistency in the change of coaches.
