Serbian national team striker Dušan Vlahović spoke about the team’s condition after their 0:1 defeat to Albania in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Following the match, head coach Dragan Stojković resigned.
According to Vlahović, this was the most painful and difficult loss of his entire international career.
“For me, it was truly a very tough game. I think my teammates feel the same way. We didn’t play well, we couldn’t win our recent matches either. After the heavy defeat to England, it’s understandable that the fans are upset. This is the current reality, and we must admit it,” said Vlahović.
He added that players are coming from different clubs and conditions, which makes unity more difficult.
“Each of us has different circumstances — some play a lot, others less. So it’s not easy to find a common rhythm. But we must move forward and come together as a team,” the Juventus forward added.
Vlahović emphasized that the atmosphere in the squad remains good and players continue to support one another.
“Of course, there will be ups and downs. We have many young players who need time to adapt to the rhythm of the national team. But we believe this team can return to the top again,” he said.
Thus, for Serbia, the defeat to Albania was not just a loss of points but also a test for the team’s internal rebuilding process.
