Aleksandr Khomyakov: “We can’t think about the Cup and forget the Super League”

In Samarkand, the match between “Dinamo” and “Bukhara” was intense and full of emotions. Within the 25th round of the Super League, the Samarkand team secured a convincing 4–1 victory. After the match, “Bukhara” head coach Aleksandr Khomyakov shared his thoughts.

“It was truly an exciting game. I think ‘Dinamo’ really needed the points today — you could see that in their intensity. We started well but lost control in the second half. The opponent played aggressively and put us under serious pressure. At some points we were late, at others we lost focus. They executed the free kick beautifully. Still, I congratulate them on the victory,” said Khomyakov.

According to him, the team is now at a decisive stage — with the Cup final ahead and crucial league matches remaining:
“Every match now is vital for us. Of course, we’re thinking about the Cup, but we can’t forget about the Super League fight. There’s tough competition at the bottom of the table, and no one wants to be in the December playoffs. Before the final, we face ‘Sogdiana’, and that’s where our focus should be.”

He also discussed the second-half struggles:
“In the first half, we led the score but couldn’t keep up in attack. Spending the entire match defending is not easy. We tried to counterattack, but it didn’t work. In some moments, our coordination was lacking. ‘Dinamo’ is fighting for medals, and you could feel their hunger.”

For “Bukhara”, the upcoming matches will be a real test — on one hand, the chance to qualify for the AFC Champions League through the Cup, and on the other, the battle to remain in the Super League. Khomyakov and his players aim for the best possible result on both fronts.
