Pakhtakor forward Igor Sergeev shared his thoughts after a convincing 3-0 victory against Qizilqum. According to him, the match wasn't easy, but the result covered everything.
"The first minutes of the match were a bit difficult. Our movements were slow, but thank God, we scored two goals in a short time - one from a penalty, the other from a set piece. This made the game much easier. However, frankly speaking, today's game isn't easy," said the striker.
Speaking about the second half, Sergeev noted that the rhythm of the game was disrupted several times:
"The red card, VAR test, injuries... everything slowed down the pace of the game. But the main thing is victory. There is a result, so our efforts were not in vain."
On the subject of the penalty, he said:
"I have a specific method of penalty kicking. Every footballer must believe in their style. If you don't believe in yourself - don't kick. Even if you're worried - don't kick. But if there is confidence - then go, kick and score."
Sergeev was also asked about the possibility of being a penalty shooter in the national team:
"I remember, when I was on the field, only once a penalty was awarded, and then Shomurodov kicked. He is a leader, and if he says "I believe in myself," I will only help him. If the coach tells me or trusts me, I'm ready to complete this task. But this is collective work, there should be no dispute here."
The 32-year-old striker currently leads the Super League top scorer list with 18 goals. His performance is clearly ensuring important victories for Pakhtakor and leading the team to the championship.
From Sergeev's words, it is clear that he is a leader not only on the field, but also in words.
