The English Premier League announces the fixture schedule for the new season well in advance. This approach is highly appreciated by fans.
According to Euro-football.ru, already in June the Premier League set when the exact schedule for the 2025/2026 season would be released. According to the plan, on October 15, 2024, the Premier League was supposed to announce the fixture list from Matchday 14 to Matchday 24, i.e., the schedule through the end of January.
However, last week the league only released the fixtures up to Matchday 17, i.e., games up to December 22. Difficulties arose with preparing the schedule for games between Christmas and New Year holidays.
This delay caused discontent among fans. The Football Supporters’ Association criticized the situation and called on the Premier League, clubs, police, and local authorities to fulfill their responsibilities better.
Many foreign fans also attend Premier League matches. Therefore, announcing the schedule as early as possible is considered important.
In England, many games are played at the end of the year and the beginning of the new year. This period is called Boxing Day.
Boxing Day is officially celebrated on December 26. This season, only a few games will be held on this date, while the main games are scheduled for December 27.
Fans were unhappy that the Premier League cut down on Boxing Day matches.
