Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford has spoken out about losing his place in the starting lineup and the challenges he is facing this season. The 23-year-old goalkeeper was initially chosen as the number one choice by Pep Guardiola at the start of the season. However, following the transfer of Italy national team captain Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG on the final day of the transfer window, Trafford has been confined to the substitutes' bench. The English goalkeeper, who returned from Burnley last summer, managed to feature in the first three rounds of the Premier League. Currently, he primarily participates in cup competitions. Trafford noted that while his decision to return to the club has not yielded the expected results, the experience is helping him grow as a professional. The player stated that he continues to work on himself every day.
"There have been many ups and downs throughout the season because I haven't had enough playing practice. The decision I made in the summer didn't yield the best result, but I'm trying to maintain a positive attitude. This year has been a great learning school for me, and I strive to win every day," Trafford shared.
Trafford has performed reliably in cup matches, securing important victories for his team. Notably, he kept a clean sheet against Arsenal in the EFL Cup final and saved a penalty from Mohamed Salah in the FA Cup. He is now expected to feature in the semi-final against Southampton on Saturday. Meanwhile, it is reported that there is interest in the goalkeeper from Aston Villa, and he may leave the team this summer.
