Sardor Jahonov spoke about the Afghanistan experience

Uzbek attacking midfielder Sardor Jahonov recently concluded his short-term stint at Afghanistan’s “Abu Muslim” football club. This was reported by international journalist Aleksandr Troitskiy on the “Osiyo-Sport” Telegram channel.

Jahonov had signed a contract with the club this July. However, after the team lost to Bhutan’s “Paro” club in the qualifying round of the Asian Football Confederation’s Challenge League, he decided to leave the club.

“Abu Muslim” had significantly strengthened its squad for the international tournament, inviting not only Jahonov, but also a defender from the Togo national team, a Cameroonian player who played in Romania, and a Colombian footballer. However, these reinforcements were not enough.

Aleksandr Troitskiy reached out to Jahonov and received detailed information about his experience in Afghanistan: “— The contract was initially for one month, with the possibility of extension. But we lost, so it was decided to leave.

I left the team together with the head coach. — How did you decide to go to Afghanistan?

— My agent suggested it. Besides, the team was coached by Argentinian coach Varela, whom I knew from my experience in the Indian championship.

That’s why I agreed. — Weren’t you afraid to go to Afghanistan?

— No, I was not afraid. But there were some restrictions.

We stayed at a hotel, the living conditions were not bad. But we were not allowed to leave the hotel.

I don’t know if this was due to security or for some other reason. — Did they pay your salary?

— Yes, before the game with “Paro”, they paid all their debts. I have no complaints.

— Where are you now? — I’m at home, in Uzbekistan.

I took a short break until winter.” Sardor Jahonov previously played for Uzbekistan’s “Qizilqum”, “Aktepa” and “Xorazm” clubs, Kyrgyzstan’s “Kaganat”, Tajikistan’s “Regar-TadAZ” clubs, as well as in India and Bangladesh. The 29-year-old midfielder has a total of 90 official matches, 11 goals and 9 assists to his name.

Given the experience he has gained in various Central Asian leagues, there is a high chance that Kyrgyz clubs, in particular those in the Kyrgyz Premier League preparing for the new season, may be interested in Jahonov. His experience as a foreign player could prove valuable for many teams in the region.
