Paunovich Admits Mistake in Squad Selection

Paunovich admitted to making errors in squad selection
The head coach of the Serbian national football team, Veljko Paunović, shared his thoughts on the team's final match in the World Cup qualification stage against Latvia. In this match, Serbia claimed a 2–1 victory.

After conceding a goal in the first half, the hosts scored twice in the second half to secure the win. "Of course, this is very pleasing.

Victories are always great, regardless of the opponent. However, one must not forget how the victory was achieved.

I believe I made a mistake in the first half with my team selection, as some players had participated in the match against England," the coach said in an interview published on the official website of the Football Association of Serbia. "Mild fatigue and injuries made the match against our opponent more challenging.

They took full advantage of their opportunities. However, the reaction of the players who came on after halftime was excellent." Serbia’s national team finished third in the group with 13 points.

Albania secured second place with 14 points, while England dominated the group with 24 points. Latvia earned 5 points, and Andorra managed to collect just 1 point.
