Today, for the first time in the history of Uzbek chess, two Uzbek players reached the semifinals of the World Cup. Javohir Sindorov defeated Jose Martinez in a tiebreak to reach the semifinals. He will now face Nodirbek Yakubboyev.
This means that there will be a 100% chance of an Uzbek player in the World Cup final. Additionally, at least one Uzbek player will participate in the Candidates Tournament for the world chess crown – something that has never happened before in Uzbek chess history.
Players who finish in the top three of the World Cup earn a place in the Candidates Tournament. Currently, two of the four semifinalists are Uzbek, and depending on the results of the semifinals and the third-place match, both have a chance to qualify for this prestigious tournament.
The Uzbekistan Chess Federation and chess enthusiasts congratulate our two players – Nodirbek Yakubboyev and Javohir Sindorov – and wish them success in the upcoming matches. This historic achievement further enhances the international reputation of Uzbek chess.
