Jamaica national team head coach Steve McClaren has announced his resignation. This was reported by *The Athletic*.
McClaren failed to lead Jamaica to the World Cup. In the decisive group stage match, Jamaica drew 0-0 with Curaçao, and now they will compete in an intercontinental playoff scheduled for March 2026.
"I think the best decision for me is to step aside. They will succeed in March.
Thank you, Jamaica, it was an honor for me. I love you all," McClaren stated.
The 64-year-old coach previously managed "Twente," the England national team, and "Middlesbrough," and also served as an assistant to Alex Ferguson at "Manchester United." He took up his most recent role in 2024.
"I am disappointed, but it doesn’t change anything. At first, we hired Heimir Hallgrímsson, but then he resigned.
We thought Steve McClaren would be a good replacement, but it didn’t turn out that way. Very disappointing," said Jamaica Football Federation President Michael Ricketts.
