Anzor Kavazashvili Evaluates Uzbekistan's Chances for World Cup 2026

Former Spartak goalkeeper Anzor Kavazashvili expressed confidence that the Uzbekistan national football team could deliver unexpected results at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. For the first time in its history, Uzbekistan's national team has qualified for the final stage of the World Cup.

According to Kavazashvili, the team is preparing for the tournament at the highest level. The former goalkeeper highlighted the Uzbekistan Football Federation's efforts over several years to build a new model for the national team, focusing primarily on young players. He noted that their development has been facilitated through international games.

"Yes, they may indeed achieve unexpected results. The Uzbekistan national team has been taking its preparations very seriously.

Even when our team played on their field, they featured young players who performed very well," Kavazashvili said in an interview with "Match TV." In the World Cup, Uzbekistan will compete in a group alongside Portugal, Colombia, and one yet-to-be-determined opponent.
