On Saturday, Arsenal hosted Wolverhampton at the "Emirates" Stadium in London as part of the English Premier League (EPL). The hosts dominated the match entirely, with Wolverhampton mostly focusing on defense throughout the game, registering only one shot on target.
However, Arsenal also struggled with accuracy in their attempts for most of the game, and the result was largely decided by the opponents' mistakes. The hosts applied early pressure in the first half.
After a pass from the right wing, Jurrien Timber attempted a header from about five meters, but the ball went over the crossbar. For Wolverhampton, Hwang Hee-chan broke through the center and took a shot inside the penalty area towards the left corner but narrowly missed.
In another moment, Bukayo Saka made a low cross from the right wing, and Gabriel Martinelli attempted a strike but deflected it off a defender, earning Arsenal a corner kick. Arsenal continued their attack in the second half.
Martinelli broke through from the left and sent a shot at goal but missed the target. Declan Rice struck a free kick from approximately 20 meters, with the goalkeeper parrying the shot and sending it out for a corner.
Later, Rice delivered a curved cross from the left wing towards the far post, which the goalkeeper intercepted with a jump to neutralize the threat. The game’s first goal came in the 70th minute.
Saka delivered a corner kick from the right side, and the ball deflected off the far post before hitting the back of the goalkeeper and ending up in the net — 1-0. In the remaining minutes, Arsenal came close to scoring a second goal several times but lacked precision in their final touches.
Unexpectedly, Wolverhampton equalized towards the end of the match. In the 90th minute, Mateusz Mané delivered a precise pass to the center of the penalty area, and Tolu Arokodare headed the ball into the bottom-left corner to level the score, 1-1.
However, in the fourth minute of added time, Arsenal regained the lead. Saka crossed the ball into the goal area from the right, Gabriel Jesus failed to reach it, but Wolverhampton defender Yerson Mosquera headed the ball into his own net — 2-1. With this victory, Arsenal extended their lead to five points over Manchester City, although the London side has played one more game.
As for Wolverhampton, they remain at the bottom of the league table with just two points after suffering their tenth consecutive defeat. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
