Former Spartak goalkeeper and member of the USSR national team, Anzor Kavazashvili, commented on why the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted simultaneously in three countries. He shared his thoughts in an interview with the publication “Euro-Football.Ru.”
Kavazashvili emphasized that the sharp increase in the number of participating teams has led to multiple countries combining efforts to host the tournament. "Now, there are so many teams participating in the World Cup.
Therefore, three countries – Mexico, Canada, and the USA – have joined forces to host the tournament. If FIFA selected just one country, it wouldn’t be able to manage the final phase of the World Cup on time.
Ultimately, the issue mainly boils down to commercial interests,” he stated. For reference, the 2026 World Cup will be the first in history to be held in three countries – the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
