Koloskov: Safonov Has Potential to Become PSG's First-Choice Goalkeeper

Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFS) Vyacheslav Koloskov shared his thoughts on Matvey Safonov's chances of establishing himself as the main goalkeeper at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Koloskov emphasized that Safonov indeed has the potential to become the first-choice goalkeeper.

Otherwise, if the goalkeeper had not perceived this opportunity, he would have already left the club. Koloskov pointed out that there are typically two decisive factors when it comes to a goalkeeper’s role: Safonov's performance level and how the coaching staff evaluates his competition.

“There is always a chance. If he hadn’t felt the presence of such an opportunity, he would have left by now.

There are two components here: how Safonov performs himself and how the coach evaluates his rival,” Koloskov said, as quoted by the publication "Sovetskiy Sport." Safonov started from the first minute in the FIFA Club World Cup final match against Flamengo.
